StarSkate Registration Information

Welcome to a new season with Vernon Figure Skating Club. Listed are the programs for the upcoming year.

JUNIORS:

Skaters must be selected by the coaches to this program. All skaters must have passed the stage 3 Canskate badge or higher and must show a desire to fast-track into figure skating. They must also have the skills required to cope with the Junior program.

Juniors is an introduction to the Starskate program. It is designed as a bridge between Canskate and Intermediates for our up and coming figure skaters. The registration fee for this program includes all ice and coaching for two days per week for the winter season.

Within the Junior program, skaters will be introduced to basic figure skating skills including jumps, spins, edges, turns as well as an introduction to synchronized skating.

INTERMEDIATES:

Skaters must have passed the Canskate stage 7 badge (or at the coaches discretion) and be working on Skate Canada tests.

Within the Intermediate program, skaters will work on skills, dance and freeskate as well as synchroskate. Your registration fee covers all ice for two days per week for the winter season as well as 1.25 hours of coaching per week over those two days. You are encouraged to skate both days per week. If you are not able to, please inform the coaches of the day that you will be attending. Fees cannot be adjusted.

Tuesdays will incorporate group enrichment time as well as individual practice and Thursday’s session will be seminar style for the hour.

Should you wish to skate more than two days per week, please contact the coaches to discuss additional time. Please indicate on the registration form the number of private or semi-private lessons that you require per week. We will do our best to accommodate all lesson requests.

SENIORS:

Skaters must have passed two out of three of the preliminary Skate Canada disciplines; Preliminary Dances, Preliminary Skills or Preliminary Freeskate.

Within the Senior program, skaters will work on skills, dance, freeskate and, if they so choose, interpretive. Your registration fee covers all ice for the winter season for three days per week as well as 1 hour of coaching per week over the three days. You are encouraged to skate all three days per week. If you are not able to, please inform the coaches of the days that you will be attending. Fees cannot be adjusted.

Mondays will include skills and dance, group enrichment and individual practice time. Wednesdays is individual practice time and Thursdays will incorporate both seminar style group lessons and individual practice time.

Should you wish to skate more than three days per week, please contact the coaches to discuss additional time. Please indicate on your registration form the number of private or semi-private lessons that you require per week. We will do our best to accommodate all lesson requests.

SYNCHRO:

Synchronized skating, or "synchro" is a specialized discipline of skating involving groups of eight or more skaters performing various group formations and maneuvers. The objective is for the team to perform as one unit executing circles, blocks, lines, wheels and intersections in unison to the music, while demonstrating quality edges, power and flow.

There are two event streams of Synchronized Skating in Canada – a recreational or Festival SynchroSkate and Competitive SynchroSkate. Both of these streams can lead a team to national level events.
